Education and Citizenship Research Group (EIC)

Educational research is the main focus and interest of Education and Citizenship research group (EIC); a group that was set up more than 20 years ago in the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and is currently part of the Research Institute and Educational Innovation (IRIE) from the same university.

The main research topics in which the members of the EIC group are recently involved include:

• Academic integrity, information literacy and academic writing

• Early school leaving and second chance education and training

• Education for sustainability (Environmental education) and interpretation of heritage (cultural management)

• Gender and education

• Training and work itineraries

• Intercultural education: immigration, family and school

• Sociocultural animation

• Social and educational uses of ICT

• Teacher training

• Vocational training. Training and work. Training of trainers

In addition to research, the social transfer of knowledge is one of the concerns of the EIC group. That is why EIC offers its services for conducting socio-educational studies, designing and carrying out training activities and cultural projects, among others. Along the same line, the GEIC leads the Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Vocational Training (LRIFP) of the UIB, created in 2021, to develop research, training and innovation in vocational training.
